Which ticket suits which trip

Table of Contents

Between Rostock and Gedser you don't pay for the distance, you pay for flexibility. Every car ticket takes you across the Baltic Sea in around two hours; they differ in how firmly you are tied to a departure and what happens if your plans change. The car ticket includes the driver and all passengers. The "from" prices for all fares are on the Prices & fares page, and the conditions are here.

Single crossing: Low Price, Standard or Flex

  • Low Price is the cheapest car fare and can only be booked online. It is valid only for the departure you booked and can be neither changed nor refunded. Low Price suits you if your day of travel and your arrival time at the port are fixed.
  • Standard is valid for all departures on your day of travel. If you reach the terminal earlier or later, you simply take another ferry at no extra cost. Changing to another day goes through customer service for a fee plus the fare difference. Standard is also the ticket you buy at the terminal without a booking.
  • Flex is valid for up to three months after the booked departure and can be changed or refunded free of charge until then. You can only book Flex online. The extra cost is worth it if your travel date or your return date is still open.

Return trips: day ticket and Easy Return

  • Car day ticket: outward and return crossing on the same day, designed for a trip to Gedser and Falster.
  • Motorcycle day ticket: outward and return crossing on the same day by motorcycle.
  • Foot passenger day ticket: outward and return crossing on the same day on foot. What you need to know without a car is on the Foot passengers & bicycles page; a plan for the day is in Day trip to Denmark without a car.
  • Easy Return: you book the outward crossing for a fixed departure and the return stays open. This suits you if you are heading to Denmark or Sweden and don't know your return date yet.

For an outward and return crossing on different days without Easy Return, you book a single crossing in each direction; the return direction is covered on the Gedser-Rostock ferry page.

Motorcycles and bicycles

The motorcycle ticket includes up to three people, as long as the motorcycle is no longer than 2.5 metres. You can take a bicycle along for a supplement on top of the passenger ticket. Longer vehicles, vehicles with trailers and motorhomes are booked with their type and dimensions; what matters here is explained on the Motorhomes & trailers page.

Changes and cancellations

After every booking you have 24 hours to cancel, and the ticket price is refunded without fees. After that, the rules of your fare apply. Cancel unused tickets via "My booking" at Scandlines; changes go through customer service for a fee plus the fare difference. Fees are not refunded.

What applies if Scandlines cancels a departure or the ferry is delayed is on the Live status page.

Buying at the terminal

Without a booking, you buy a Standard ticket at the terminal at the port price. Online, the same Standard ticket costs considerably less. If you want to pay in cash, use the yellow lane. How check-in works is explained on its own page.

On to Sweden

For onward travel, Scandlines combines the crossing with the Øresund Bridge or with the Helsingør-Helsingborg ferry in one combination ticket, each as a Standard version and for motorcycles, and via the bridge also as Flex. Which option suits which destination is explained on the Combination ticket to Sweden page.

FAQ

Common questions about ticket types, changes and cancellations

Can I change a Low Price ticket? +

No. Low Price is valid only for the departure you booked and can be neither changed nor refunded. If your day of travel isn't fixed yet, Standard or Flex is the safer choice.

What is the difference between Standard and Flex? +

Standard is valid for all departures on your day of travel; to move to another day, you go through customer service for a fee plus the fare difference. Flex is valid for up to three months after the booked departure and can be changed or refunded free of charge until then.

Can I still cancel my ticket after booking? +

After every booking you have 24 hours to cancel; the ticket price is refunded without fees. After that it depends on the fare: Flex is refunded, Low Price is not. Cancel unused tickets via "My booking" at Scandlines.

Is it worth buying the ticket at the port? +

At the terminal you buy a Standard ticket at the port price. The same crossing is considerably cheaper online; compare the amounts on the Prices & fares page.

Is there a return ticket? +

Yes. The day ticket covers the outward and return crossing on the same day, by car, by motorcycle or on foot. Easy Return combines a fixed outward crossing with an open return. Otherwise you book a single crossing in each direction.
