Table of Contents

By motorhome, the Rostock-Gedser ferry is the direct route from eastern Germany to Falster, Zealand and on to Sweden: around two hours across the Baltic Sea instead of the overland route via Jutland. The hybrid ferries Berlin and Copenhagen have two vehicle decks with 800 lane metres each. What matters is that you enter your vehicle's type and dimensions when you book.

Booking with type and dimensions

Tickets are sold per vehicle, and all occupants are included in the ticket. When you book, you enter the vehicle type and dimensions, and for a vehicle with a trailer, the trailer too. If the details are correct, check-in is a mere formality.

The fares differ just as they do for cars: Low Price is valid only for the booked departure, Standard for the whole day of travel, and Flex can be changed free of charge. What suits your trip is explained on the Ticket types page, and the "from" prices on the Prices & fares page.

Height and vehicle decks

  • Lower vehicle deck: clearance height 4.60 metres.
  • Upper vehicle deck: clearance height 4.20 metres.

Both decks offer 800 lane metres each. If your vehicle is taller than 4.20 metres, be sure to state the height correctly when you book. More about the ships is on the Scandlines and the ships page.

Check-in at the yellow lane

Motorhomes over 6 metres, caravans and trailers use the staffed yellow lane. There you show your booking or buy a ticket. There is no online or number plate check-in on this route.

  • Timing: check-in opens two hours before departure and closes 15 minutes before; at least 30 minutes is recommended.
  • Procedure: after check-in, the staff direct you to the waiting lane, and from there you drive onto the vehicle deck.

The full procedure is on the Check-in page.

On board

The vehicle deck is closed during the crossing, so you can't stay in your motorhome. Take food, medication and warm clothing up with you. A dog may stay in the vehicle, but you can't visit it during the crossing; all the rules are on the Dogs & pets page.

Motorcycles

The motorcycle ticket includes up to three people, as long as the motorcycle is no longer than 2.5 metres. With a motorcycle, you also check in at the yellow lane.
