Where to leave your car?

Table of Contents

If you come to Rostock by car, you have three options for the ferry to Gedser: take the car on board, leave it at the Überseehafen and cross on foot, or travel without a car in the first place. What suits you best depends on whether you're only spending one day in Denmark and how far you want to drive there.

Parking at the Rostock ferry centre

There are dedicated parking areas at the ferry centre in the Überseehafen:

  • P1 is right next to the ferry centre and is intended for short stays, for example for picking up or dropping off.
  • P2 and P2a are to the south of it and are intended for longer stays, including several days in Denmark.

You can't reserve spaces. Signs on site show you the way. From the car park, walk into the ferry centre to the foot passenger check-in; what happens next is on the Foot passengers & bicycles page. Everything else about the terminal is on the Rostock ferry port page.

From Denmark via Gedser

If you're coming from Denmark, the easiest option is to take your car on board, or to travel to Gedser ferry port by bus 740 from Nykøbing Falster. The bus terminates at the Gedser Færgehavn stop; more on the Gedser ferry port page.

Take your car instead of parking

For a day in Denmark, the car day ticket is often the simpler solution: outward and return crossing on the same day, all passengers are included in the ticket, and you're mobile on Falster. Cars up to 6 metres check in at the machine in the blue lane, longer vehicles in the yellow lane. Compare the fares on the Ticket types page and the procedure at the port on the Check-in page.

The vehicle deck is closed during the crossing, so take everything you need on board with you before you leave the car.

To the ferry port without a car

You can reach Rostock's Überseehafen by S-Bahn to Lütten Klein and then bus 45 or 49 to the Seehafen Fähre stop. In Gedser, bus 740 runs to Nykøbing Falster station. A full day plan without a car is in Day trip to Denmark without a car.
