From Rostock to Gedser without a car

Table of Contents

On foot or by bike, the Rostock-Gedser ferry is the direct route from Mecklenburg to Falster, around two hours across the Baltic Sea. The procedure differs from travelling by car: foot passengers check in at the ferry centre and in Rostock take the shuttle bus to the ship, while cyclists go through vehicle check-in. Here you'll find tickets, times and how to get there by bus and train.

Tickets without a car

  • Foot passenger day ticket: outward and return crossing on foot on the same day, the right ticket for a trip to Gedser.
  • Bike supplement: you take your bike along for a small supplement on top of the passenger ticket, for the outward and return crossing.

The amounts are on the Prices & fares page, and the conditions of all tickets on the Ticket types page.

On foot: check-in and boarding

  • In Rostock, check in at the ferry centre up to 30 minutes before departure. At the counter you show your booking or buy a ticket and receive a boarding card. About 20 minutes before departure, the free shuttle bus takes you to the ship.
  • In Gedser, 15 minutes is enough, because a passenger bridge leads directly on board there.

By bike: check-in and boarding

With a bike, you check in through vehicle check-in, not at the passenger terminal:

  • In Rostock, ride into the yellow lane at least 30 minutes before departure. The staff check you in, and you roll over the ramp on board like the cars.
  • In Gedser, take your bike to the gangway building, scan or buy your ticket there and wait at the bicycle entrance; 15 minutes before departure is enough.

The vehicle deck is closed during the crossing. Take any luggage you need on board off your bike and up with you. All lanes and special cases are on the Check-in page.

By bus and train to Rostock

The ferry berth is in the Überseehafen. Here's how to get there:

  • S-Bahn from Rostock Hauptbahnhof to Lütten Klein, then bus 45 or 49 to the Seehafen Fähre stop.
  • Line 19 also stops at Seehafen Fähre.

More about the terminal is on the Rostock ferry port page.
