Gedser ferry terminal sits at the southernmost point of Denmark and is easy to reach by car. From larger cities such as Copenhagen (around 150 km away) or Nykøbing Falster (about 25 km), the route runs by motorway and expressway straight to Gedser. The route is well signposted. The following guide explains the journey step by step.

  1. E47/E55 motorway towards Falster

    Take the E47/E55 motorway heading south (signposted "Rødby/Falster"). Along the way you pass the town of Vordingborg on Zealand and finally cross the Farø bridges onto the island of Falster. Stay on the E47/E55 towards Falster/Gedser (not towards Rødby) until the turn-off for Nykøbing Falster is signposted.

  2. Exit 44 Nykøbing Falster

    On Falster, take exit 44 (Nykøbing Falster/Eskilstrup). At the end of the exit, turn towards Nykøbing Falster as signposted (keep right). At the following roundabout, take the second exit onto the E55 expressway towards Nykøbing Falster. This bypass takes you around Nykøbing and continues south.

  3. Continuing on the E55 to Gedser

    Follow the E55 further south for about 25 km to Gedser. Along the way you pass through rural areas and smaller villages on Falster, but always stay on the main road (Gedser Landevej). The route is clear and well signposted - simply follow the signs for "Gedser" until you reach the town.

  4. Arriving at the ferry port

    In Gedser, follow the signs to the ferry port (towards "Rostock") down to the harbour, where the ferry terminal lies at the end of Jernbanevejen. Drive onto the terminal grounds and join your vehicle in the marked check-in lanes; allow enough time and be there at the latest 30 minutes before departure.

Gedser ferry terminal at the southern tip of Denmark is well served by public transport. Trains and buses connect Gedser with larger cities such as Copenhagen or Nykøbing Falster. The following step-by-step guide describes the journey by train and bus to Gedser ferry port.

  1. By train to Nykøbing Falster

    First take the train to Nykøbing Falster, the nearest station to Gedser ferry terminal. Regular regional and intercity DSB trains run from Copenhagen (journey time about 1.5 hours). You can also reach Nykøbing Falster comfortably by train from other larger Danish cities (for example Odense or Aarhus), possibly changing at Ringsted or Copenhagen.

  2. Continuing by bus to Gedser

    At Nykøbing Falster, change to bus line 740 (towards Gedser). This regional bus usually runs hourly and takes you to the ferry port in around 40 minutes. The final stop, Gedser Færgehavn, is right by the terminal. Note that buses can run less frequently in the evenings and at weekends.

  3. Arriving at Gedser ferry terminal

    Get off at the Gedser Færgehavn stop; from there it is only a few metres to the Scandlines ferry terminal. Follow the signs to check-in or the waiting area for foot passengers. Plan to arrive about 15 minutes before the ferry sails so you have enough time for check-in.
