Getting to Gedser ferry terminal

Gedser ferry terminal is at Jernbanevejen 1, 4874 Gedser, at Denmark's southern tip and right on the edge of the village. The port facilities belong to the ferry company itself, which keeps things simple: one entrance, one terminal building, short distances.
Arriving by car
The approach runs almost entirely along one road. From Zealand and Copenhagen, take the E47/E55 south, cross the Farø bridges to Falster and keep following signs for Falster/Gedser, not Rødby. At the Nykøbing Falster exit, switch to the E55, which continues south as a bypass.
From Nykøbing Falster it is another 25 kilometres or so on Gedser Landevej. The route runs through rural Falster, but you stay on the main road all the way. In Gedser, follow the signs for the ferry port towards "Rostock" to the end of Jernbanevejen.
Distances for planning: Copenhagen to Gedser around 150 kilometres, Nykøbing Falster to Gedser around 25 kilometres. From Sweden, the route leads across the Øresund Bridge and through Copenhagen onto the same road.
Arriving by bus and train
The nearest station is Nykøbing Falster, which you can reach from Copenhagen by regional and intercity trains in about an hour and a half. From there, Movia bus 740 takes you to Gedser in around 40 minutes; the terminus, Gedser Færgehavn, is right at the terminal.
The buses do not run at the same frequency all day: they run less often in the evening and at weekends. So check the connection for your specific travel day rather than assuming an hourly service.
Check-in and boarding
Check-in closes 15 minutes before departure. With a car up to 6 metres, you use the blue lane and check in at the machine. You need the staffed yellow lane for longer vehicles, motorhomes, cars with trailers or caravans and motorcycles, and if you have reduced mobility, are paying in cash or are buying a ticket on the spot.
On foot, you check in at the terminal and then walk on board across the passenger bridge. Unlike in Rostock, no shuttle bus is needed, which is why 15 minutes is enough here. With a bike, report to the gangway building, wait at the bicycle entrance and ride on board via the ramp like the cars. Around the port
Gedser itself is small, but the port is more than a place to pass through: the beach, the pier and the village centre are within walking distance, and the southernmost point of Denmark is a few kilometres away. If you are using the ferry for a day trip and do not want to go all the way to Copenhagen, you will have a more relaxed day here.
