Rostock port, getting there & the terminal

Arriving by car

From Berlin you come up the A19, from Lübeck or Stralsund along the A20; at the Rostock interchange you switch to the A19 towards the Überseehafen. The exit is called Rostock-Überseehafen and is signposted throughout.

After that a four-lane access road leads into the port area. Follow the signs towards the ferry port and Gedser - other lines sail from the Überseehafen as well and the signage lists them all. Some two and a half kilometres along Am Skandinavienkai you turn off at the "Zum Fährterminal" sign and arrive at the check-in lanes.

In peak season and on holiday weekends, half an hour of slack pays off, because traffic backs up on the access road.

Arriving without a car

Rostock main station is served by ICE and IC trains - around two hours from Berlin, about two and a half from Hamburg. From the station you continue in two steps:

1. S-Bahn S1 towards Warnemünde to Lütten Klein, roughly every 15 minutes during the day, about 15 minutes' ride.
2. Bus 45 or 49 from Lütten Klein station to the Seehafen Fähre stop, roughly every 30 minutes, about 20 minutes' ride. The stop is at the passenger terminal.

For travel inside Rostock you need a ticket from the Warnow transport association. Allow around 40 minutes from the main station, plus a buffer for the change.

At the terminal

With a vehicle you join the check-in lanes directly: blue for self-service with number plate recognition, yellow for staffed processing. After check-in the staff direct you into a waiting lane, and from there you drive onto the vehicle deck.

On foot you check in at the passenger terminal. As the berth is not within walking distance, a free shuttle bus takes you to the ship; it leaves around 20 minutes before departure and takes only a few minutes. That is why the check-in time for foot passengers in Rostock is earlier than in Gedser. By bike, ride into the yellow lane at least 30 minutes before departure instead and board like the cars. One of the operator's two BorderShops sits right by the terminal, and the waiting area has free Wi-Fi.

Parking and Step-free Access

The short-stay P1 car park is beside the ferry centre. For a longer stay, use P2 or P2a to the south of the building. Spaces cannot be reserved. Check the current location and charges map from ROSTOCK PORT before travelling, as conditions may change.

The ferry centre has accessible entrances and facilities. ROSTOCK PORT shows them on its official map of the accessible terminal. If you are travelling with a vehicle and need assistance, state this when booking, use the yellow lane and aim to be at the port 30 minutes before departure. Travelling on from Rostock

After arriving from Gedser, the same access road leads back onto the A19. Berlin is around 250 kilometres away, Hamburg about 200 via the A20. Without a car you take the shuttle bus, a local bus and the S-Bahn to the main station.
